The CTS A3 2.0T Direct Fit FMIC Kit is designed as a direct replacement for the OEM front-mounted intercooler (FMIC). This means you can install this kit without any modifications or modifications to the bumper. The OEM FMIC is sufficient for standard boost levels, but once boost levels are increased through ECU upgrades/chip tuning, the OEM FMIC struggles to control intake air temperatures. Higher intake air temperatures can lead to boost cut and timing pull, both of which reduce the amount of power your vehicle produces.

The CTS direct fit FMIC uses an efficient bar-and-plate intercooler core, which helps reduce pressure drop. Lower pressure drop means your turbo doesn't have to work as hard to produce a given boost level. If your turbo produces 30psi of boost pressure in the turbocharger, and your intercooler has a 10psi pressure drop, the boost measured by your ECU would be (30psi - 10psi) = 20psi. With an efficient FMIC like the CTS direct fit FMIC, your turbo doesn't have to work as hard to reach the desired boost levels. This is beneficial in two ways: the turbo's life expectancy is increased through more efficient operation, and the boost leaving the turbo is cooler and denser, resulting in more power to the ground.
