About Akrapovič
Founded in Slovenia, Akrapovič is a leading manufacturer of exhaust systems dating back to 1990, initially focused on the motorcycle market and later expanding to automotive exhausts in 2010. The company was founded by Igor Akrapovič, a motorcycle racing enthusiast, in the late 1980s. Igor began making his own exhaust systems due to the poor quality and high cost of available aftermarket exhaust systems. These systems were made of high-quality materials such as carbon fiber and titanium.
In 1993, Kawasaki began testing Akrapovič exhaust systems in Germany, and in 1994 they were first used in international competitions. In 1997, the company changed its name from Skorpion to Akrapovič, and that same year, Akira Yanagawa became the first to win a race with an Akrapovič exhaust on a Kawasaki motorcycle. Production capacity was expanded in 1999 following strong sales growth, primarily from Germany.
Akrapovič and Porsche
The first world championship with an Akrapovič exhaust was won in the 2000 WSBK by Colin Edwards on a Honda SP-01. In 2004, Akrapovič made its first foray into the automotive industry, and in 2007 the company developed and supplied an exhaust system for a Formula 1 race car. Akrapovič is now also a supplier to the Porsche Sport Cup and has received several awards, including the Best Exhaust Pipe Manufacturer Award from German Motorrad magazine.
