This unique upgrade is specifically designed for modified Type Rs that see intensive use on the track or road. In addition to cooling the transmission oil, this oil cooler also reduces engine temperature, which is crucial for reliable performance under heavy loads.
The standard gearbox uses a simple heat exchanger that uses engine coolant to cool the oil, which adds additional heat to the cooling system. The Airtec oil cooler integrates an external cooler into this circuit, cooling both the gearbox and engine more efficiently. Furthermore, the increased oil volume in the system increases capacity and helps maintain temperature control for longer.
The cooler is securely mounted to a replacement lower support member that is stronger and stiffer than the original part. A lightweight aluminum air baffle, equipped with vents and powder-coated black, directs airflow to the oil cooler and provides additional passive cooling under the engine.
